FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How difficult is the hike to the waterfall?

The hike is rated moderate. It's about 45-60 minutes uphill through forest trails with some steep sections. Walking sticks are provided, and we take regular rest breaks. Most people with average fitness can complete it comfortably. It's not recommended for those with severe mobility issues or very young children.

Can I swim in the waterfall?

Yes! Swimming is allowed and encouraged. The water is quite cold (15-18°C) but very refreshing, especially after the hike. Bring your swimwear and towel. The natural pool at the base is safe for swimming, though always follow your guide's instructions.

Is the coffee tour suitable for children?

Absolutely! Children usually love the interactive coffee-making process, especially the rhythmic pounding of coffee beans and the traditional songs. The local families are very welcoming to children. We recommend the tour for kids aged 8 and above for the full experience including the hike.

What if it rains during the tour?

Light rain is actually quite common and makes the rainforest even more beautiful. We provide ponchos, and the trail remains accessible. Heavy rain might make trails slippery but still doable with care. We monitor weather conditions and will advise if conditions are unsafe, in which case we can reschedule.

Can vegetarians/vegans be accommodated for lunch?

Yes! Please inform us of any dietary restrictions when booking. The Chagga cuisine has many vegetarian dishes, and our hosts are experienced in preparing vegetarian and vegan meals. Common ingredients include beans, corn, rice, vegetables, and fruits.

How much should I tip the guides and villagers?

Tipping is not obligatory but greatly appreciated. A general guideline: $5-10 per person for the driver/guide, $3-5 for the village guide, and $3-5 for the host family. However, tip based on your satisfaction and budget. Your tips directly support the local community.
